10 ways to ground when walking around barefoot makes you uncomfortable

Grounding

I’m sure you have heard of it. That you should aim to walk barefoot in the grass everyday and ground yourself. Does this idea make you a little uncomfortable or you live in an apartment or townhome without a backyard and don’t want to be walking around or standing barefoot in the middle of the sidewalk? Should we care about what others think, of course not but that easier said then done and takes a lot of practice. It’s ok to start wherever you are now, you are safe, you are loved. If the idea of walking around barefoot feels unsettling here is a list of ways you can practice grounding without feeling uncomfortable.

1. Plan a trip to the park for a picnic. Wear your favorite sandals and kick them off while you’re eating on the blanket and just set your feet in the grass.

2. If you live by a lake or the ocean plan a beach trip and toss your sanders off to walk through the sand or just sit in a beach chair with your feet in the sand.

3. If there is a community garden in your area volunteer to help plant or pull weeks. Working with our hands in the garden can be extremely relaxing.

4. Just take a walk. Walk in the woods. Around your city. Through the park. It doesn’t matter just walk.

5. Go swimming!

6. Lay your hand or hands on a tree and take a few deep breaths.

7. Sit and close your eyes. Think about standing barefoot in the forrest and feel the soft floor on your feet. Imagine the sounds of birds chirping a light breeze rusting into the leaves. The dappled sun shining through the leaves and a near by creek tinkling through the woods. Stand here in your mind for as long as you like and make this a daily practice.

8. Tend to house plants. Tending to house plants can also be a great way to add a little grounding into your daily routine.

9. Take a moment to drink a glass of water and take three long deep breaths to reground yourself during a busy day.

10. Ground yourself in the present moment. Feel the breeze on your face, listen to the sounds floating by. Take a few breaths and if you’re really brave, sneak those Sandler off here and there through the day to feel the amazing release of stress.

This is just a small list there are many ways to ground yourself. Whichever way you choose will be the perfect choice for you. And remember it’s ok to start where you are, to take small steps, to follow breadcrumbs to a more balanced life.

Have a beautiful day,

Coral Elise
