10 ways to ground when walking around barefoot makes you uncomfortable

Grounding

I’m sure you have heard of it. That you should aim to walk barefoot in the grass everyday and ground yourself. Does this idea make you a little uncomfortable or you live in an apartment or townhome without a backyard and don’t want to be walking around or standing barefoot in the middle of the sidewalk? Should we care about what others think, of course not but that easier said then done and takes a lot of practice. It’s ok to start wherever you are now, you are safe, you are loved. If the idea of walking around barefoot feels unsettling here is a list of ways you can practice grounding without feeling uncomfortable.

1. Plan a trip to the park for a picnic. Wear your favorite sandals and kick them off while you’re eating on the blanket and just set your feet in the grass.

2. If you live by a lake or the ocean plan a beach trip and toss your sanders off to walk through the sand or just sit in a beach chair with your feet in the sand.

3. If there is a community garden in your area volunteer to help plant or pull weeks. Working with our hands in the garden can be extremely relaxing.

4. Just take a walk. Walk in the woods. Around your city. Through the park. It doesn’t matter just walk.

5. Go swimming!

6. Lay your hand or hands on a tree and take a few deep breaths.

7. Sit and close your eyes. Think about standing barefoot in the forrest and feel the soft floor on your feet. Imagine the sounds of birds chirping a light breeze rusting into the leaves. The dappled sun shining through the leaves and a near by creek tinkling through the woods. Stand here in your mind for as long as you like and make this a daily practice.

8. Tend to house plants. Tending to house plants can also be a great way to add a little grounding into your daily routine.

9. Take a moment to drink a glass of water and take three long deep breaths to reground yourself during a busy day.

10. Ground yourself in the present moment. Feel the breeze on your face, listen to the sounds floating by. Take a few breaths and if you’re really brave, sneak those Sandler off here and there through the day to feel the amazing release of stress.

This is just a small list there are many ways to ground yourself. Whichever way you choose will be the perfect choice for you. And remember it’s ok to start where you are, to take small steps, to follow breadcrumbs to a more balanced life.

Have a beautiful day,

Coral Elise

Walking in Gratitude

I walk in gratitude

I stand in grace

I hold tight to my peace

I take up space

I drip light on my thoughts

I walk in gratitude

Through the thunderous storms

I walk in gratitude

For gratitude is my home

Gratitude. It’s a word that gets thrown around a lot. You know expressing gratitude is good for your health so you diligently write down your daily gratitudes for the day. This is a great practice that builds good habits but it’s missing some key components

It all started at the end of college with a meditatiation class I took toward the end of college. I was always so stressed, working almost full time with a full class schedule and social life. That first brush of meditation was my first experience with learning how to deal with stress.

I was just before the birth of my first child that I discovered the world of spirituality, mantras, and gratitude. I picked up the book Living in The Light by Shaki Gawain. This book changed everything for me. It was the start of this beautiful journey.

From there I found kundalini yoga, jounaling, Meditation, and really cemented in writing down my daily gratitudes and started learning about manifestation.

Just about three years after discovering kundalini yoga I found I was pregnant with my biggest surprise of my life! Twins.

It was after the twins were born that I finally understood what expressing gratitude should feel like.  I was sitting on the floor with my journal, both of my boys laying happily in their twin z pillow, me running on about two hours of sleep.  I sat down and wrote…

I am grateful for my children……

Then I paused.  I only felt nothingness when I wrote that, I of course was tremendously grateful, and I felt immense love towards my children.

But in that moment I realized that just writing my gratitudes did not actually bring up any emotions at all.  So I set to work.  The work of connecting gratitude with feelings.

Each morning I sat and I put my hand over each of my babies hearts and I looked them in their sweet little faces and told them how grateful I was for them. Then I would do this with each of the things I was grateful for followed up with writing them down.  For the first time ever I was feeling into gratitude.  Purposely connecting the emmence feelings of gratitude with the practice of writing gratitudes.

Try it out:

Sit and choose one thing you are grateful for.  Say I am grateful for_____. See how that feels to say or write it. Really focus on how you are feeling in your body.

Now bring the person or thing you are grateful up in your mind.  For this example I’m going to use a person you are grateful for.  Close your eyes and think about this person.  Bring them up in your mind.  Think about all of the happy memories, things that they do that bring you joy, the love you have for them.  Keep going until you can feel the gratitude in your heart.  Then, write or say I am grateful for______.

Did it feel different? Practice this daily.

Small Changes

It all begins with an idea.

Sometimes when we are in the trenches of motherhood, college, work, ect. the amount of self care, real self care not brushing teeth and showering that we let slip or were never doing in the first place seem overwhelming. The amount of things we would have to make time for is immense and seems so unreachable that we just don’t do anything at all.

But….there is so much power in making just the smallest changes. Start with a small thing and see how it utterly changes your life. WIth each small seemingly insignificant change you inact in your life you will be amazed by the way your life shifts.
